(UN)CEDED
AMERICA 250 EXHIBITION PROJECT
An Open-Call Exhibition
We’re now accepting all 2-D, 3-D, and time-based media that are presented for the duration of the exhibit. Spoken word, performance, lecture style presentations that can be programmed during the exhibit dates, single event or in series welcome. Other proposal ideas are welcome.
Entry Deadline: August 1, 2026
As the United States of America celebrates its 250th anniversary, Moscow Contemporary joins the national conversation with (Un)Ceded. This open call exhibition takes as its starting point the Nez Perce Treaty of 1855; the historical document connected to the land upon which the gallery sits. These unceded lands have been the site of struggles that continue to this day.
While rooted in our place, and its treaty, artists from across the region are encouraged to enter work related to their particular situation. There were five treaties alone in the interior PNW from 1855-56.
Artists working in all media are invited to submit work for consideration. Submissions of existing work, proposals for new projects, and site-specific installations welcomed. Individual artists or collaborative teams are encouraged to think broadly as to how their work fits within the themes suggested by the history of their land and current cultural, legal, social, and economic struggles.
MosCo welcomes submissions of existing works, as well as proposals to be created for the exhibit. The gallery has some locations that artists may feel are the perfect fit for their work. If appropriate, use the floor plan available on the exhibit website to suggest an installation location.
If your work is more appropriate for programming within the exhibit dates: spoken word, sound, music, poetry, dance, theater, performance, or other “event” presentation, complete the proposal form and let us know what you are thinking of doing.
The gallery has a limited pool of funds to assist artists with participation. This should go to specific expenses related directly to the artwork.
